DOME FLYING PDF Print E-mail

The second of two indoor flying sites is located at the Robert Morris University sports complex on Neville Island.

FLYING IN THE DOME AT THE ROBERT MORRIS SPORTS COMPLEX ON NEVILLE ISLAND SPORTS

This is a unique site in that it’s basically a balloon held up by air pressure. It’s functions as an indoor driving range for golfers with space for two soccer fields.

Dave Kelly is the organizer of the flying in the dome.

Aircraft restrictions are the aircraft must weight no more than 14 ounces with battery. No helicopters.

Fred Kier of Cranberry, a member of the M.A.R.S. Club flew a E-Flite SE-5a

Flying included 3D foamies and several varieties of slow flyers. One of the interesting events was pylon race of Park Zone Micro Cessnas.

Bill Mohrbacher of Beaver Falls. a member of the Beaver County Model Airplane Club, with his micro Cessena. A micro Cessena race was held as part of the activities.

The dome can be reached from Butler PA by using I-79 southbound and getting off at the Neville Island exit. Turn left at the light located at the end of the off ramp. The sports complex is located on the north end of the island Entrance is from the right lane of the highway

Flying is $20 dollars for three hours of flying. Children fly for $10 per session but must be accompanied by a responsible adult while flying.

Ed Andrews of Pittsburgh a member of the SPARKS of South Park with his 1920 Caproni seaplane. Ed must like building wings. The airrcaft has 9 wings 4 rudders and multiple engines. The orginal crashed on it's maiden flight.

There are only two flying sessions left in the schedule for the 2008 season.
They are March 15 and 29th.
