RADIO CONTROLLED AIRCRAFT/MODELER RESUME OF JOHN VOGEL THE AIRCRAFT Giant scale Spitfire built from Dave Platt plans. Wingspan 88 inches powered by a Super Tigre 3000. Futaba radio using 5 channels, throttle, ailerons, elevators, rudder and retracts.
The builder John Vogel does not consider himself a scratch builder but a builder from plans. John feels a scratch builders are those individuals who start with a blank piece of paper or in the case of scale subject a 3 view and develop their own and draw their own plans.

PERSONNAL INFO John Vogel and his wife of 65 years Ennyd are the parents of two daughters. They reside in Richland Twp Allegheny County, PA. Served with the Army Air Force in England during WW II Raced stock cars 1950 to 1956 at the Heidelberg Raceway in Heidelberg PA. Retired from Rochez Brothers, a diverse company involved in construction, steel, engineering, machining spread over five states, in 1987 at the age of sixty five where he was employed as the company controller. MOST EXCITING MOMENT While racing his 1940 Ford at the Heidelberg Race Track he flipped it end for end than rolled over 5 times. MODELING ACTIVITIVIES AND INTERESTS Started modeling by building free flight aircraft in the 2nd grade. Began building R/C aircraft in 1972. Main interest is scale aircraft especially giant scale. Favorite subjects WW II war birds. Joined IMAA in on it’s first anniversary. Served as IMAA District 3 Director. Attended IMAA Festivals all over the US. Member and founding member of Steel City Soarers.
Member of Butler Aircraft Modelers and Maple Cave flying clubs. AMA Leader Member and contest director. Long time contest director of the Maple Cave Club’s Fly In. Currently contest director of the Butler Aircraft Modelers Annual Fly In. Has worked at Hobby Express in Cranberry Twp PA for the past twenty years, working three nights a week specializing in RC aircraft. |
