The first Ohio Dawn Patrol was held the weekend of July 19 & 20 2008 at the Cincinnati Aero Modelers field near Harrison Ohio.
Dawn Patrol is the name being given to a gathering of WW I enthusiasts and their WW I RC aircraft. There is no size limitations or building rules. The aircraft seen at the Ohio event ranged from a small electric SE 5a, a Hanger 9 Sopwith Camel a Great Planes DR 1 (triplane) ARFs and various 1/4 and I/3 scale sized aircraft.

When to fly was up to the pilots. When the wind conditions were in the comfort zone for many of the pilots the five pilots stations were quickly filled. The only rules are WW I aircraft and safety.

The Ohio event was a very laid back affair. Spectators were able to mingle with the flyers and discuss the building and flying their aircraft. All the flyers and the vendors were extremely friendly and quite willing to answer any and all questions. Glenn Torrance of GTM Models was there answering questions about his products. Glenn produces. Several WW I model kits in both 1/4 and 1/3 scale along with accessories. Several of his 1/3 scale Fokker DR-6’s were present. For those interested he plans to add a 1/3 scale SE 5a to his line up in the near future.

BALSA USA was there with their trailer selling kits and answering questions. They have a new source for balsa. The examples of this wood on hand were extremely impressive. They flew an example of their Spad XIII. Many of the aircraft present were built from BUSA kits. A dinner and movie with free popcorn was the evening entertainment The most numerous types had to be Sopwith Pups and Fokkers. If your interested In WW I aircraft and looking for a laid back event in which to mingle with other RC flyers with the same interests look for a Dawn patrol type event.
